Fukushima Medical University is located in the city. "Advanced Clinical Research Center" in Fukushima Medical University enables collaborative research using the latest clinical/small animals imaging devices.
"Medical-Industrial Translational Research Center" supports the development of drugs and devices mainly for cancers.

Fukushima Global Medical Science Center, established in Fukushima Medical University, is comprised of five sections: 1) Radiation Medical Science Center, 2) Advanced Clinical Research Center, 3) Translational Research Center, 4) Advanced Treatment Section, and 5) Education and Human Resources Development Section. It is expected that the development of medical personnel supporting community health and medical-related industry is further promoted with the establishment of the facility.

Fukushima City Industry Exchange Plaza not only supports business matching, but also stations industry-academia collaboration promotion coordinators, who are engaged in bridging companies and educational and research institutes. Also, Fukushima New Industry Creation Promotion Council has been founded to reinforce industry-academia-government collaboration efforts. A cooperative framework with local companies having technical ability is being prepared by holding workshops and information exchange for new entry into the medical-related area, held by Fukushima City Medical and Industry Collaboration Study Group.

Fukushima City, aiming to become an environmentally advanced city, prepared an original subsidy system to realize a low-carbon/recyclable society that prevents global warming and puts less of a burden on the environment through the introduction of renewable energy. Fukushima Prefecture is also engaging in supporting the introduction of renewable energy and the expansion of the use of hydrogen under the Innovation Coast Initiative. Further, business matching is also supported through the “Renewable Energy Industry Fair,” which is a trade fair where renewable energy-related companies within and out of Fukushima Prefecture participate.

Major education/research institutes of the industry

There is the Fukushima Renewable Energy Institute, AIST (FREA) in Fukushima Prefecture, where studies are implemented under various themes set for increasing the introduction of renewable energy. Technical information on renewable energy is also transmitted through close cooperation with research institutes both at home and abroad, companies and universities. The city is aiming to form a cluster of relevant companies and develop human resources through these projects.

In addition to supporting business matching, the Fukushima City Industrial Exchange Plaza has a full-time coordinator to promote industry-academia collaboration and supports the transfer of knowledge and technology among businesses, universities and research institutes.
They set up the Fukushima Promotion Council for New Industry Creation to strengthen its efforts to cooperate with industry-academia-government. Furthermore, Fukushima city aims to cooperate closely with research institutes as well as countries and prefectures in accordance with the measures to promote the introduction of renewable energy in Fukushima City.
