Strength of the region's industries and economy

Fukushima city, in harmony with nature and blessed with the beauty of four seasons, is the prefectural capital of Fukushima Prefecture. There are many flowers, fresh fruits, parks, and hot springs, making it a comfortable place to live.
The city is 80 minutes away from Tokyo by shinkansen, on the express transport network such as Tohoku Shinkansen and Tohoku-jukan expressway. Located at the center of southern Tohoku Region having the population of 5.4 million, the city is superior in transportation convenience.
The city, and indeed the entire prefecture, supports collaborative research with universities and research institutes, and provides opportunities for communication among industry, academia, and government, with the strong tie between "industry", "academia" and "government".

Available incentives

Fukushima city provides a subsidy of up to 50% of the acquisition cost of designated land in order to support enterprise establishment.
Fukushima Prefecture also provides a subsidy system for foreign companies, for the costs of renting facilities, payment of utilities, management consulting fees and personnel expenses.
There are many other subsidy systems and preferential tax systems offered by the Japanese and prefectural government, essentially exempting corporate tax for five years.

Outline of Incentives (Requirements etc.)

Subsidy of 50% of the land acquisition cost, when it acquires 1.5 ha or more of an industrial park and has 150 million yen or more of invested fixed assets and starts operation within three years of acquiring the land (30% for under 1.5 ha).
In addition, when acquiring a privately-owned land and constructing new bases in industrial regions, 5% of the acquisition cost is subsidized (10% in the case of research and development companies in the areas of medical care/welfare-related industry or renewable energy).

A subsidy is available when a company received a subsidy for land acquisition or was established in the area designated by the mayor, and also employs continuously a new local employee for more than a year.
