Fukui is close to both Kansai and Chukyo areas, and offers first-class transportation infrastructure in the area along the Sea of Japan including well-developed Tsuruga Port. In addition, thanks to Fukui's location at almost the exact center of the area along the Sea of Japan, it takes an advantage of cheaper product shipping costs to all corners of Japan. At oceanfront industrial parks, the prefecture has established a water purification center to process industry effluent.
With the development of the transportation system such as the Hokuriku Expressway, the Chubu Jukan Expressway, the Maizuru-Wakasa Expressway (its full extent is scheduled to open in July 2014) and Hokuriku Shinkansen (Kanazawa Station opened in March 2015), time distances to metropolitan areas where large markets are expected to cut short even more in the future.
