Strength of the region's industries and economy
Aomori, as an energy-efficient prefecture, aims to shift to a low-carbon society by strongly promoting the introduction of renewable energy such as wind energy, photovoltaic energy, hydraulic power, and biomass energy, as well as by introducing next-generation cars such as electric cars and plug-in hybrids that can utilize those clean energies. Above all, Aomori will make every effort to address global environmental issues and resource problems.
In addition to offering a subsidy system whereby up to 2 billion yen is offered as support for initial business investment in buildings and machinery, there are a number of large-scale industrial parks, such as the Mutsu Ogawa Development Region, which helps subsidize site acquisition. Deduction of electricity charges is offered to relevant businesses in areas surrounding nuclear reprocessing plants in Rokkasho Village and Misawa City. The amount of the deduction varies depending on the number of employees, contract demand electricity, and electricity charge for usage, which can be more than half of the total charge. Furthermore, most municipalities in Aomori Prefecture offer favorable tax treatment, exempting relevant businesses from property tax and corporation tax for three to five years.
