In order to further develop business in Japan, a country considering the decommissioning of its reactors, Cavendish Nuclear Japan KK was established in Tokyo in October 2018. The company’s aim is to build cooperative relations with partner companies in Japan and pioneer new business.

Recently, a number of electric power companies have announced the decommissioning of nuclear power plants in Japan and serious considerations and full-scale preparations have began. Cavendish Nuclear signed a contract with the Japan Atomic Energy Agency to support the decommissioning of prototype fast breeder reactor Monju in August 2019. The agreement is based on the company’s experience decommissioning fast breeder reactors in the UK and ensures the highest level of safety and environmental protection.

To assist with the establishment of the company’s base in Japan, the JETRO Invest Japan Business Support Center (IBSC) provided temporary office space, consultation on registration and information on the market, regulations and the legal system. It also introduced a real estate company.
