On July 13, the Government of Japan and JETRO co-hosted an event on the occasion of the signing of the Japan-EU Economic Partnership Agreement in Brussels, Belgium, under the title "The Japan-EU EPA: Expanding our Rules-Based, Free Trading Sphere to Create Economic Opportunities for Businesses". It was joined by 120 people, including corporate leaders from various countries as well as experts, researchers and policy makers from the European Commission and foreign ministries and chambers of commerce.
In the keynote address, Dr. Lee-Makiyama illustrated that Japan's investment climate has improved dramatically under the policy known as Abenomics. Highlighting how Japan is well positioned to attract investment due to its promising market, high investment returns, legal stability, and transparent and predictable regulations compared to neighboring countries, he emphasized that European companies are underinvesting in Japan and that there is much more potential for growth than ever before.
