Suzhou Pangolin Robot Corp, Ltd. is a service robot manufacturer based in China (Jiangsu Province). Since its foundation in 2006, they have specialized in the development and sale of commercial service robots for service industries such as banks, hotels, shopping malls and restaurants. Their service robots are equipped with advanced identification capabilities including face recognition, voice recognition and autonomous navigation systems. Their leading products are robots for hospitality services such as for hotels and restaurants. Bank of China, HSBC, McDonald's and Starbucks are among its main customers while its service robots are also being used in airports, cinemas, museums, exhibitions and other events in Europe, the United States and Asia.
Suzhou Pangolin Robot has a research and development center (2,500m2) and a production base (4,000 m2), which has a production capacity of 50,000 units per year. Its sales network extends throughout China providing commercial service robots in more than 200 cities domestically. Currently, sales and business are expanding internationally to many countries including Korea, Canada and Italy.
The company has been exporting products to Japan since 2015 and established Pangoline Robot Japan Co., Ltd., which is a joint venture with Japanese companies (Campus Create and hapi-robo st Inc.) in order to further expand its market in Japan. Its joint-venture partner Campus Create, was incorporated as a technology licensing organization and technical transfer institute of the University of Electro-Communications (UEC) in order to give back to the industry the university's research results, such as intellectual property. The company's Japanese office is located at the UEC Alliance Center, a joint research facility of UEC. They will begin working together with the other joint-venture partner hapi-robo st Inc. (a subsidiary of Huis Ten Bosch, a robot-utilizing company) within 2017 and begin delivering robots for serving tables, reception and attracting customers in Huis Ten Bosch, a theme park in Nagasaki prefecture.
Suzhou Pangolin Robot is looking to expand its business through Japanese bases and has a plan to develop software for service robots in Japan, conduct collaborative research with Japanese companies and begin OEM production in the future. Its alliance with Japanese companies in the field of robotics is expected to improve the company's technical level and contribute to the dissemination of service robots in Japan.
For the establishment of its subsidiary in Japan, the JETRO Invest Japan Business Support Center (IBSC) provided support including provision of market information, business matching and referral to recruitment agencies.
