BEE CHENG HIANG is an established Singaporean brand founded in 1933 that sells barbecued jerky called “bakkwa”, meaning dried meat in Fujian dialect. The company gained popularity with their handed-down secret recipe for smothering pork over live charcoal without using any artificial seasoning. Its retail network spans over Singapore and 11 other countries in Asia, with more than 350 retail shops till date.
BEE CHENG HIANG started to consider venture into Japan market years ago, because their products have been very popular among many Japanese tourists. However, they took some time to enter the market due to the necessary export approval applications for Japan.
The company plans to open 5 to 6 stores in near future including its 2nd Tokyo store in next Spring, and will continue to expand their business to other regions of Japan.
