UK-based David Austin Roses Limited’s Japanese subsidiary David Austin Roses KK opened one of the largest English Rose gardens in the world in Sennan, Osaka in 2012. In the gardens spanning 7,500m2, more than 3,000 English Roses have been planted. There is also a plant center which offers visitors one of the most extensive container rose collections to be found anywhere in Japan. In the fall of 2014, it opened a small gift shop which sells a range of rose-themed gifts and home lifestyle items. Each year, a rose festival takes place in the Spring and Autumn with garden tours organized for visitors to enjoy and learn more about the beauty of the English Roses, and the garden has become a popular tourist destination in recent year.
David Austin Roses Limited was founded by rose breeder David CH Austin in Albrighton, England in 1969. Since then, it has been engaged in the breeding and selling of roses around the world. Since David CH Austin created his first English Rose in 1961, he has developed more than 200 new varieties and continues with his lifetime’s work to develop roses of great beauty, fragrance and charm for gardeners around the world to enjoy.
JETRO Invest Japan Business Support Center (IBSC) has been providing continued support since its incorporation in Japan in June 2008, covering the opening of the English rose garden and the gift shop. JETRO’s support has included advice on visas; consultation on tax matters and labor affairs; referral to candidate lots for rent; provision of information on construction standards, import regulations and tariffs; and assistance with PR activities.
