Soraa, Inc., established Soraa co., ltd. in the Monozukuri Innovation Center run by Itabashi Ward, Tokyo.Soraa, Inc. is a US-based joint venture founded by Shuji Nakamura, a 2014 Nobel Prize laureate in physics for development of blue LED light as well as a professor at the University of California, Santa Barbara.
The company is engaged in manufacturing GaN (gallium nitride, semi-conductor which is used for producing purple LED) based LED chips. It is also manufacturing and distributing white LED lamps which emit light close to natural sunlight along with lenses of its original design. The office in Japan has become Soraa’s third base following its headquarters in Fremont, California and international sales headquarters in Hertford, U.K. Its white LED lamps are sold by distributors in more than 40 countries in the world. Through establishing its new base, the company wants to expand its sales network in the Japanese market, where LEDs are spreading faster than in many other areas of the world, and promote sales and penetration of its products in the Asian market.
