Shioyasu Urushi Ware Company
Founded in 1858, Shioyasu Urushi Ware Company, a long-established Wajima Lacquerware (Wajima-nuri) manufacturer, offers an extensive selection of Wajima-nuri products. Such an extensive range is made possible by having a store that specializes exclusively in lacquerware. Visitors are invited to tour the company's workshop and observe the manufacturing processes in order to learn about this traditional craft of Ishikawa Prefecture by "seeing, understanding, and touching." While preserving the traditions of Wajima-nuri, the company is constantly exploring new manufacturing directions, such as the manufacture of audio speakers, fashion accessories and other items.

Store: 8:30 - 17:30, Monday through Sunday Workshop tour: 8:30 - 17:30 (one hr. break from 12:30), Monday through Friday You are welcome to look aroud the workshop on Saturdays and Sundays (8:30 - 17:30) but please be aware that the craftworkers have those days off. Therefore, you will not be able to see how the manufacturing processes are actually performed, but explanations can be provided. |

Parking capacity: 11 large and 30 standard-size vehicles. You can make an advance reservation for lunch (charged), in Japanese only, via telephone or fax. Please call us to inquire about the lunch menu and fax us a meal order with the number of people, etc., well in advance of the scheduled date of your visit. |
