Industrial Tourism in Japan
Higeta Aizome Kobo (Higeta Indigo Dyeing Studio)
Once, some 80% of all the clothes worn by common people were indigo-dyed. Our studio has been maintaining and spreading Japan's traditional art of indigo dyeing and other vegetable dyeing over the last two centuries. Known as "Japan blue", indigo colors and dyeing techniques are highly appreciated outside Japan as well. At the same time, since cotton and its tradition are inseparably involved in the culture of indigo dyeing, we are engaged in cotton cultivation, yarn making, yarn dyeing, and hand-weaving. Please visit our space for creation of traditional colors.
